Yesterday I did 40 lengths at the pool and a walk afterwards for 40 mins or so. Today I just did the walk, I can definately an improvement - I managed to walk much farther today without having to sit down or bend over. Strangely I found out that if I walk with my legs farther apart I can control the pain much better - must have something to do with the position of the Sciatic nerve.
Anyway, I plan to keep up this walking - Im hoping for a pain free walk sometime next week.

Today I did more swimming - 34 lengths of the pool - over half a mile! Im thinking about doing some Aqua jogging to get my fitness up for when I can start running again but I would feel a bit of a freak in my local pool. Im going to try going at some different times in the day and see if I can find a period thats pretty empty. I would need to get one of these Water Jogging belts.
Did another walk today, not as far as the other day - still having to stop and bend over every so often. I will keep going though - this Sciatica has got to go soon.
Its been exactly 2 months since my last proper run, just before christmas. 2 months out of a year is ages to be suffering like this so I have to be extra carefull to not let this injury occur again.

Today I managed to walk around 3.5km in 45mins. Up till now my walks have been 10 mins or so and I’ve had to stop every few minutes and sit down till the pain goes.
Today I managed to keep walking and when the pain became too much I just bent over double and quickly massaged the back of my left thigh and then I was able to carry on. This was a real break though as I havent managed continuous walking for more than 5 minutes since my accident.
I think the swimming may have helped loosed the sciatic nerve where ever it is trapped so Im going to continue with that and walking tommorow and see how it goes. Feels great to have finally made some progress.
Did another swim today - 30 lengths, I found out that the distance for a Triathlon in swimming is 1.5km which is 60 lengths so I managed half that today!
Its quite a nice way to start the day, Im starving now so breakfast time!
Thought I’d try swimming today to see if that helps my back, I’ve not swum properly since I was a kid - apart from the odd bit on holidays. Its a lot harder than I remembered!
Our local pool is 25 meters long and I did 24 lengths so 625 meters in total. That took me around 25 mins as I had a few breaks in between lengths.
Going to go for a walk later and see if its eased the sciatica at all.
I still have Sciatica, its around 6 weeks now so Im hopefull it will be gone soon as the last 2 times Ive had it, it lasted 6 weeks.
I gave up going to Physio as after the last 2 times I went, I was in a lot more pain the following few days and couldnt even sit and work without lots of pain - having to get up every 5 minutes or so to get rid of the pain. I may go back once its cleared up as she was doing a good job stretching my tight leg out.
I havent been doing much in the way of exercise, just little bits - using my cross trainer at hom and today I went out and did 10km on my bike. I really dont enjoy either of these things so In really looking forward to being able to have a jog.
I’ve entered the manchester run which is on the 16th May, so I need to get back running pronto - my aim is still to run it at 45mins - maybe slower now as I dont have long to get fit for it.
Im hoping my next update on this blog will be after a run ……
Today at the gym I forced myself to do 30 minutes on the crosstrainer in 10minute sets, with 10 minutes cycling so I did an hour in total. While on the cross trainer, I was in bad pain from sciatica after 5minutes but I just forced myself to go on till the 10. On the 10min sets on the exercise bike I did some intervals of 2 minutes hard where my heart rate was up to 160 and then a minute to let it go down to 130. I think it was a bit elevated as I’ve had loads of caffeine today - been up since 6am working.
One more workout tommorow and I’ll do a weigh in, dont even want to say what my weight was at the start of this week!

I have been to the gym twice this week, just going on the exercise bike and doing some weights. Im still getting the sciatica when I stand or walk for too long so cant progress to anything else yet which is really annoying. I can now cycle on the exercise bike for an hour where before I was only managing 10 minutes at a time.
I went to Physio last night and the woman has given me some exercises to do, Im going back in a week to see how Ive progressed. Once Ive got rid of the sciatica we can concentrate on some strengthening and core exercises to hopefully prevent it happening as much in future.

Went back in the gym for the first time since my injury to do some time on the exercise bike to try and get rid of the Sciatica (it worked last time).
I managed around 40minutes - 10 minutes at a time and then a 1min break when the pain go too much, this was different to last time as Im getting the pain when sitting down as well as standing up. Fingers crossed this works to untrap whatever god-damn nerve is causing me this pain.
