Running to Fitness

The first post …

So I’ve decided I’d like to run the London Marathon in 2009 and will be charting my training and weight loss progress here. Its more a record for me to see how I’m doing and could be of help to other people thinking of doing the same or even just taking up running as a way to lose some weight and get fitter.

Once I get some traffic to the site I’ll be adding some advertising, 100% of which will go to charity if I can get a place at the marathon and actually take part! As I missed out on applying for the race directly, I’m going to have to go through a charity which will require me to raise around £2000 in sponsorship. Im applying for Diabetes UK, I find out next month if I get a place with them.

Where I am at the moment : I ran the Great Manchester Run 10k which was my first race and had around 5 weeks training before that. I didn’t get a brilliant time; 1 hour 14 mins but I really enjoyed it and was making great progress with my running. I decided then to do a half marathon and began training for that. I was up to running 10k+ each day when I flare up of sciattica which I’ve had since a car crash around 8 years ago.

I’ve now been inactive since July, been on holiday and put around a stone of weight on as I’ve been unable to run. I started running again yesterday and put in a gentle run of around 3.5k, I did the same again today - it feels great to be able to run again! My aim now is to slowly build up my mileage again and try to stay injury free this time.

I’ll keep you posted how I do .. I’ll be putting my Nike+ widget and Skinnyr widgets on here so you can see my progress.
